I am a keen reptile enthusiast and often visit my parents who live in Dorset. Whenever I get the chance I like to get out and look for reptiles. Whilst I have seen plenty of grass snakes, frogs, newts and lizards, I have only ever seen two adders in all of my many excursions. One on Studland Heath and another by the railway in Corfe. Can anyone give me any tips on exactly where to go and what to look for to improve my chances of seeing adders? Thanks |

I would suggest that it's not wise to say exactly where to go over the internet, besides which there are adders virtually everywhere in the Dorset heaths. It's a toss-up between them and smooth snakes being the most common snake there. As for seeing them, it's a case of getting up early in the morning on a spring day, March onwards is best, or any time on a brightish overcast day.
