Anybody know what species these acrobatic chappies are ?

Seen in my garden (Surrey) on Friday. Looks like birch leaves, but I'm no expert.

Hi Steve

Look to me like the Birch Sawfly (Croesus septentrionalis). We used to be plagued by a vague relative, the Gooseberry Sawfly (Nematus ribesii)

Chris,

That looks like a spot-on ID, many thanks. I'd not noticed them before, and I think the Blue tits have had 'em all now.

Vicar,
Have a look at the cover of AIDGAPS: A Key to the major
groups of british terrestrial invertebrates BY S.M.Tilling.

You don't get a more endorsed id than that!
