This mild weather has resulted in our latest sighting of grass snake in this county today. A couple of friends came across a grass snake basking in a sunny spell in the early afternoon, partly raised out of the grass across the stump of a small felled tree. They thought it was dead until they got very close where upon it shot off into the longer grass.

I sighted a grass snake many years ago as a 14 year old out in frozen hoarfrost I thought it was dead but showed signs of life and took it home and kept over winter in a aquarium keith

Question is do these late stop outs burn up more energy than they can replace at this time of year?
