I saw a tiny thin (4-6 ") plain black snake on Monday. It had a creamish coloured 'collar'. It was quite aggressive. Any idea what it could be?

Hi Jane,
Sounds like a juvenile grass snake, quite harmless: Snakes on the move and juvenile grass snakes can both appear dark or black, the 'collar' is the key to identification.

It was definitely black - and collar stood up off the neck - a bit like it had been stuck on afterwards.
