Excellent start Tim Big smile

Braving the wind and rain tonight, I discovered it was really mild out.

It didn't take long:

Question: why is a female Smooth Newt a sort of a fawn colour?

Answer: because it makes them almost impossible to see against waterlogged grass!

She was not egg laying, that will still be a while yet, so I popped her out for a clearer picture.

Great work, and happy new year. If there is sun at the weekend, I may be able to get a long-distance view of an adder.

Jeez Gemma I didn't realise we were expected to be out in sou'westers etc. to get our pix! I'm not saying I'm a fair weather herper, but I might wait till it is at least not chucking it down. All credit to you for being made of sterner stuff!

I came across some friends who actually spotted this adder about 15 mins before me!

Well done Mark, Clap Now that I really didn't expect on day 2 Big smile

I keep hearing of January Adder sightings, I'm a bit more inspired now to check-out the local sites sooner rather than later.
