Hi, I found this on our tent this morning when we came to take it down. Is it a common Lizard ?

Hi there

Yes, this is a male common lizard which has suffered very recent tail loss (autotomy)

Thanks for the reply. What are the signs of it being recent ?

I think he was warming himself in the morning sun, he was very sluggish.

Hi again

Once the tail is thrown regrowth starts very quickly. Within a few days a small smooth pointy stump will appear and continues to grow thereafter - sometimes almost to original length. In this case there might, just, be the slightest suggestion of such a pointy bit so certainly very recent.

Just to add to what Chris has said...this is the male in breeding colour. Not always this green.
