Found this skeleton in the woods yesterday.  There are adders and grass snakes in the vicinity and I wondered if there was a way of identifying it?

I also wondered if there was any way that I could clean up the skeleton without it all falling apart??

Thought about the oxidation method http://theboneman.com/Oxidization.html or soaking in biological washing powder solution.  Any ideas??

Boulenger's 'Snakes of Europe' has a key to separate the European snake genera by skull features, and has some good diagrams of skulls too. Hopefully there's enough left of yours to be able to tell.

It's old enough to be out of copyright, and so is available online:

Remember that Natrix was Tropidonotus at this point...
