hi folks.

a couple of weeks ago (while suffering from RAUK deprivation) i went out with my friend Beki to see the outstanding performance poet John Cooper Clarke in Cheltenham.
he was vey humorous and his dextrous machine gun wit blew my tiny mind!

anyway, returning late and a bit the worse for wear, i invited Beki in for a coffee before she went on her way.
ive always suffered from a weak bladder so it wasnt long before i needed the toilet.
as i made my way towards the bog, i glanced down and at the foot of the stairs was an adult toad!!!
at first i thought i was seeing things.
after all, how CONVENIENT - a HERPER finding a toad in his home!
plus id been drinking real ale all night.

i wouldnt blame you for judging this a tall tale but i swear on my dear mothers life its TRUE!

so then i began to wonder.
how did it get there? maybe Monty (my 14 yr old cat) brought him in?
so i placed toad before feline to see how he reacted.
however, as with frogs and newts, he sniffed at it then sauntered nonchalantly away. there were no noticeable tooth or claw marks on the toad either.
the only thing Mont's brought in during the decade ive had him was a dead rat once.
if he ever brought in a herp, then understandably, i would be pissed OFF!

NOT GUILTY m'Lud?

my guess is the toad came in of its own volition thru the back door (or possibly thru the doorless catflap).
the door was left ajar all afternoon.
he would have had to have negotiated the step to do get in the house though.
so i suppose ive previously underestimated the climbing prowess of toads!

i took him outside and released him in the garden.

before returning to the bathroom to wash all the Toad piss off my hands!

youve gotta admit, this was a pretty unusual (not to mention UNEXPECTED!) herp encounter!

ben

PS ive no idea where these toads come from. i find them in the garden quite often.
but theyve never spawned in either of my ponds!

Ben,
Might be a good idea "to take more water with it"

I found a toad in my office once, nearly stood on it.
