Hi all,

While in E Turkey 2 weeks ago came across this fat lizard.  At 1625m elevation, near the border with Iran.  I'm a birder but have no idea about lizards.  Any idea?

Thank you!

Hiya

This is a female (almost certainly gravid) Caucasian Agama (Paralaudakia caucasia formerly laudakia caucasia). This species is common across northern central Asia and creeps into eastern Turkey as its westernmost range. The Starred agama (Paralaudakia stellio) is the closely related more westerly species found throughout most of Turkey and extending into southern Europe.

Hope this helps
