hi is it true you now need to have licenses to keep any european reptiles. cheers Marc.

Under the Habitats Directive DEFRA introduced the European Protected Species Regulations last year, this means you may need to be licensed if you have wild caught specimens of most European reptiles and amphibians. If the specimens held and captive bred licences are not required.

I don't believe you need a licence to keep slow-worms or common lizards. Despite this, they are quite difficult to look after... These two species are protected from  killing, injury and sale under the wildlife and countryside act and are not European Protected Species.

i keep eyed lizards(Timon lepida) which bred last year,i took the yearlings to a pet shop to sell them on and he told me he wouldn't take them untill this licence thing comes in which natural england are doing for the goverment. i wouldn't keep any british reptile as i think its better to watch them in the wild
