Announcing the launch of KRAG's 'Adders in Decline' project!

Several factors are believed to be responsible for apparent declines in this species. These include: habitat loss, fragmentation of remaining populations, unsympathetic management, direct persecution and public pressure.

In order to address these concerns, KRAG are launching a new initiative ĉAdders in DeclineĈ. This project will aim to promote the pro-active conservation of adder. Project aims include:

1) Record the distribution of adder in Kent - identify key sites and important habitat componants within each site (e.g. hibernacula).

2) Monitor important populations - determine relative population sizes in different habitats.

3) Recommend Strategies for further survey work - undertake experimental tests of survey methodolgy.

4) Raise awareness and publicise conservation concerns - including running reptile survey training events, publishing habitat management leaflets etc.

5) Promote adoption of species action plan for adder in Kent.

For more details of this exciting initiative, including a map illustrating target areas please download this leaflet (pdf).

The site list for KRAG's adder project has now been agreed. If you would like to get involved, a map illustrating where we hope to survey can be found here.
