Just thought IĘd start a chit chatty sort of thread cos IĘm a chit chatty sort of youngster. So what made you old folk get interested in frogs?
I became fanatic about frogs about 4 years ago after feeling guilty for not helping a frog and toad in trouble. IĘd always seen the squidged frogs about since I was very tiny but one day on my way to work I stumbled upon a live toad which had been run over the night before, it was on the pavement and it was sunny and it was maniacally crawling round and round in circles and not getting anywhere. One back leg was a gonna so that was what was making it not head in a straight line. IĘm just a girl and wasnĘt brave enough at the time to stamp on an injured one, so I took off my gloves and picked it up and moved it into some grass but got real freaked out cos when I put it down my handy pandy was covered in blood. & then I continued to walk the 1 hour 15 minutes to work with blood all over my hand so I was extremely traumatised. & then the very next day I was walking to work again in a right built-up area along the main road when I spotted the most gorgeous looking large frog IĘd ever seen 1 ¢ metres out into the main road with traffic buzzing past itĘs nose. I stood at the side of the road praying it wouldnĘt jump further and that a car wouldnĘt get it and when I had chance I jumped into the road myself and grabbed it which was another very brave thing for someone as inexperienced with animals as me to do. But then I looked round and everyone was staring at me with this frog and I got all self-conscious and quickly flung it into the nearest bit of grass and made a quick getaway trying to pretend I was never holding a frog at all. But as I walked away it dawned on my low intelligence brain that IĘd placed it in a dumb area cos itĘll just jump out again later and didnĘt stand a chance with all them roads around. I felt bad for it. It was all my fault cos I didnĘt have the brain power to take it down to the river when I had the chance. I should have gone back for it when I realised but I was scared of being a few minutes late for work. Shame on me. I think I saw a pancake splatter mark a couple of days later. So I decided that because IĘd f*cked up with helping that toad and frog that IĘd have to save other ones to cancel out my wrong doing. So I went out to find frogs and toads and help them cross the road that very night and I picked up a couple and moved them but I couldnĘt be sure them two would have died so I picked up more, but I couldnĘt be certain that out of about 10 that two would have died, so I picked up more to make doubley doubley sure that any wrong doing on my part would be forgiven by God cos IĘd saved others to make up for it. But I enjoyed picking up toads and frogs and helping so I did it again the next night and by the next night I thought if I donĘt go out then other frogs and toads will die because I havenĘt been out. So now IĘm obligated every frog season to go out and save them cos if it ainĘt for me lots would die. ItĘs extremely inconvenient and stressful but I love frogs and toads lots and it ainĘt their fault that meanie drivers donĘt care about their lives. IĘll love them and save them for as long as I live. |
