I wasnt sure where to put this topic but it is in regard to the attitude of the police towards responding to wildlife law breaches mainly GCN but reptiles too.

Basically it has become apparent that a certain attitude has arisen among the ranks of a certain police force namely from the chief honcho who deals with wildlife crime.

Excuses normally abound which go like this - Its a neighbours dispute - its a ploy to delay or stop development - Newts are everywhere - they are being introduced into ponds to stop development - err what do you want us to do about newts you say? what are they?

Though some local WLO's have responded well and we have even stopped landowners from filling in GCN ponds but it is increasingly a problem when police officers become consultants for local developers - isnt that a conflict of interest? I feel so considering this certain police offcier has received awards from the WWF - any thoughts?

If I'm thinking of the same police force, and wildlife liaison officer the latest was 'they have a DEFRA license there is nothing we can do'... regarding a site where no visible mitigation is in place, plant machinery was parked next to the GCN pond in question, no drift fencing to guard against newts moving into a nearby construction area was in place and handy rubble piles had been left next to the ponds for the newts to colonize.

So what is the next step?
