Here we go again yesterday the area council subcontract tidy up brigade of machette & chainsaw waving brigade of t**sers were out today getting rid of as much growth as they could along the by pass that is one of the last bastions for birds and whatever other critturs left in town. Every one I spoke to during the last burn and destroy of anything that looked like a tree or bush, were appalled by these actions ,I cannnot see why this is a priority as it also enhances the by pass by hiding the housing estates seems they prefer us to look at the litter it exposes and that never gets tidied up. But I find it strange that councils use ratepayer monies for non priority work during these days of severe cutbacks,or is this what they mean by cut backs. keith

Keith,

maybe some of the members of this forum pay the council to do it so that it makes it easier to collect up the Adders in spring and keep them as pets! Wink

I think Keith that if you travel the length of the country you'll be amazed at what work the councils seem to find money for that would strike us as non-essential. This also sort of comes back to the old thing that nature must confine itself to nature reserves (and even there it can be at peril!) whilst roadsides and other non-obvious havens are pretty well open-season for tidy-up.
