Picked up on this info very recently, and sure that it would affect all wetland wildlife including amphibians. Is a big shame and another example why airport expansions are a bad idea. Is not the first time (but hopefully will be the last) that water companies have had serious pollution incidents.

As many of you may be aware, over the weekend there was a serious pollution incident at Heathrow which caused sewage to spill into the River Crane, directly affecting the Crane Park Island reserve. The Environment Agency have launched an investigation and are taking samples and monitoring the incident. They have estimated that 3,000 fish have been killed and are reporting that species including pike, eel and perch have been killed, some of which were five or six years of age.

Thames Water had this to say about the incident: “Faced with the unpalatable choice of letting the remaining sewage back up into the airport or spill to the River Crane, the company was forced to opt for the latter. From Sunday afternoon until 3am on Monday sewage spilled intermittently to the river.”
