hi folks, why do you think these bluebells prefer this particular 3m spot to the rest of the 500 acres of ancient earthworks and grassland habitat that is Rodborough Common.
the 1 in GLOS i mean, not the one in Surrey!



typical habitat bluebells are occasional;

Bluebells are an ancient woodland indicator. When you find them in the open like this it generally means that that spot was at some point ancient woodland/hedgerow. This has subsequently been cleared but the ground has been left undisturbed. The Wood Anemones (AWI) in the second pic also suggest that this too was ancient woodland at some point. Over time and without shade they will probably, eventually die out Thumbs Up
