The Intimate South African Reptile Photographic Experience

2008/9

These tours are designed for one to three people who desire to get up close and photograph some of South AfricaÆs most exciting reptiles. The tours are tailored to your individual requirements, and you will be personally guided and assisted by Dr Tony Phelps, the acclaimed professional herpetologist and photographer.

The two day tour is based in the world famous DeHoop Nature Reserve surrounded by dramatic mountains but nestled by the sea in dune thicket, sandveld and limestone fynbos. Here you will find tortoises, geckos, puff adder, boomslang, and Cape cobra; and also the rare southern adder.

The course is designed to your particular wants, and will probably represent just a part of your visit to South Africa. There will be opportunities to learn how to handle and deal with venomous snakes if you so wish. However, the emphasis will be on photography. A range of captive reptiles would be available for controlled photography. Other wildlife includes mountain zebra, eland, bontebok, baboon and abundant birdlife. Also the southern right whale between June and September.

Although the landscape is rugged and beautiful, it is well with the capabilities of a person of average fitness. You will need good boots, and sun block, and note that the Western Cape is non-malarial. Bring binoculars, and plenty of film and/or compact flash cards.

The course can be extended for a day or so if desired, but please book in good time.

Contact Tony Phelps (details above) for booking details and proposed dates of visit.
