hi scale

Not seen this yet - despite living nearby and having visited this site and seen adder, viv & slowie previously a few times. [:$

hopefully soon!

if there are herps about anywhere, you can bet kev WILL find them.
usually first.
i know this from Euro trips etc with him!

thanks for all your recent RAUK postings.
ive learned from you (and the responses) and been entertained by your stories too.
Herps + Human Interest/Humour = A Perfect Read.
well,for me anyway!

cheers then!

Ben

i like it when a lizard cocks its head to get a better look at you. i fall in love again every time.

Thanks Ben,
It's good to be part of a group of like-mindeds. There
seems to be a lot more detailed info/anecdotal anomaly
reported on here than in the standard literature
available. Prime nuggets of gold i reckon.

Speaking of like-mindeds i would be interested to hear
from any people observing reptiles coming out of
hibernation in the midlands area or along a similar
latitude. I'm based in Shropshire. It would be good to
know emergence periods from any locally monitored sites
to make sure i'm not missing out. I am fairly new to
Adders but am keen to search out hibernation sites at a
couple of nearby sites i'm looking at for other species.

Thanks for all the good stuff.

kevs 2011 pic here even has a comic element to it.
look at the fem (?) in the centre. the one with its tail curled round a snail.
it looks like shes just tucked her legs in, stuffed her head in the throng as best she could and hoped for the best!

i suppose the centre of the "ball" is the most desirable spot for a lizard to be !?

Sadly, the truth is rather straightforward, as I lifted the stone one of the grass roots lifted the lizard. I removed the root, placed the lizard back into its position and carefully replaced the stone.

I noticed on that day that a lot of "improvement " was going on in that part of the graveyard and hope the stone has not been removed from it's position.

Our first sightings on the Derbyshire Moors of adder yesterday and more out in the sun at lunchtime today. Still only the odd one or two at a hibernation site with nothing showing at all at other sites.

I was thinking of a Herp trip this weekend but i thought it wouldn't be
warm enough. Forecast is colder weather albeit sunny days mostly.
Do VBs tend not go back to hibernate if it cools down say 5c?

Did not take much sun to get the odd Adder out at a two sites I visited in Derbyshire yesterday and more were out at other sites today I understand. I have seen them out when the air temp, according to the car, has been 4 degrees, and there has been a cold wind blowing I think it has more to do with the micoclimate where the snakes are basking.
