A photo taken about an hour ago on Portland.  I believe it's the same snake as the one in the previous photo.  As you can see she appears to be lighter in colour.  A couple of feet away I found her shed skin.

Still no sign of any movement around the den that hosted all the activity earlier this year.  I eagerly await the offspring.

Yesterday I spent the best part of the day sat in traffic whilst making my way to and from a well known site near Corfe Castle, in the hope that I would find lots of berus.  I didn't see anything other than a handfull of sand lizards and a shed berus skin.  I seem to be having more luck on my own doorstep.

Thanks for your comments.

I haven't had chance to go looking lately due to work.

However, here's one from today.

I haven't been down there yet.  I will do soon, promise!

There's no point going out today in this rain.  Tomorrow might be OK.  Watch this space.

Hi Ade,

The males will have dispersed to their summer hunting grounds...where that is, is up to you to find out, could be as far as 1500m away !

My advice would be to look for damper places, where there may be more prey and cooler spots for thermoregulation.

Am waiting for you to post some pics of Portland wall lizards

Cheers,

Steve

A couple more pics of a small female from yesterday afternoon.

Still no sign of the two females at my other sight that I saw mating earlier this year.  I eagerly await their appearance when they start basking again and ultimately their offspring.

It's anyone's guess as to where the males have disappeared to???????

A couple of pictures from this morning.

This female was in the same spot as yesterday.

I've discovered a website www.photobox.co.uk which may be of interest to keen photographers.  It allows you to upload your snaps and have them printed in book form with room for text under each shot.  I've had a motorbike holiday done so far and the results are really impressive.

At the end of the year I intend to upload all my adder shots and produce a photographic record of my 2008 adder sightings which I can refer back to.
