I have a crested newt site near where i live in Thetford. You can find a cresty or two under most logs in the forest area as well as smooth newts, it has one of the largest populations i have seen but Thetford forestry commission have flattened most of the site due to logging and it seems they can do it buy saying its "forestry management to help wildlife". If any one wants to see if they can take it futher I can show you the site, i never get time for these things.
