Found a terrestrial pair in amplexus today (18th March) beneath refugia close to a spawning site in south Wales. There was a second male hanging around also.

Hi All I saw my first toads of the year today at a breeding pond near Fleet in Hampshire. There were eighty five toads viewable at the surface of the water with probably a good deal more underwater. This date is three weeks later than the first ones at this site last year. Clare

Toad patrols around the Celtic Manor have picked up 914 Thursday, 1303 Friday, 285 Saturday night. That's just the ones on the roads though. Looks like rain tonight so should be more out again.

I visited a local golf course last night to count the toads in 2 ponds there, my torch battery went flat as the count reached 548 and still only one pond checked.
