Just in time to cheer me up during my current phase of doom and gloom, we spotted 2 common frogs in our garden pond tonight, these are the first we have seen since the wildlife garden was created back in April. So that's now, 2 frogs, 2 smooth newts, 2 viviparous lizards and a few introduced toads. I hope the frogs are the advanced party, it was quite warm today but I suspect the cooler weather will bring more frogs in for hibernation over the next few days. All we need now is for the amphibians to establish breeding populations and a couple of grass snakes next year :0) No sign of slow-worms yet though. |
