A series of workshops are currently in progress around the UK, aimed at producing new draft survey protocols for both amphibians and reptiles. Although led by the Universities of Kent and Sussex, the project partnership also includes Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Countryside Council for Wales as well as ARC, the Association of Local Government Ecologists and a number of commercial consultancies.

There are two remaining workshops due to be held in July, one in Hampshire and one in central Wales. Each workshop is of two days duration, with the first concentrating on amphibians and the second on reptiles. We would like to see input into the new protocols from as wide a range of experienced herpetological surveyors as possible. If you would like to be involved please contact David Sewell, D.L.Sewell@kent.ac.uk
