Nice pic RobV
Is that toad spawn to the right of the picture. Only just spotted it when looking at your pic for a second time. 31 toads recorded on the move last weekend Weather looking pretty good for more toad movement most nights this week. bye for now Edited by sussexecology - 11 Mar 2012 at 4:13pm |

Hi,
yes it is toad spawn and I can honestly say I have never seen so many Toads in one pond and so much spawn. I have my fingers crossed that they all make it out alive. Good to see so many females around this year. And although I love Grassies, it is a good job the Grass snakes take a while to warm up, if they had hit the pond today or yesterday, there would have been toad carnage!
This Frog could hardly break through the endless ropes of spawn!

Thanks Rob for that.
I guess that means that spring is officially here then ![]() it sounds like a very nice pond indeed. I saw a grass snake a few years back when doing a torch survey, and it frightened the living daylights out of me as it was right on the edge of the pond, half in the water (head first i think). I wondered it was waiting for some food as I couldn't see any other reason why it would be sat on the edge (or rather laid out on the edge, but I checked for sure.....it wasn't dead). There were frogs in the pond (and newts too) as well as some fish. I wondered if it had a way of stalking out the fish - I would rather the grassie was going for the fish, rather than the frogs ![]() Your comment on the grass snake and frogs reminded me ![]() Thanks again for the lovely pics. Please keep them coming (and that goes for Ben and others too).
