OK not quite,

Terrestrial stage male smooth newt found crossing the floor of our utility room, 30th October, translocated to the wildlife garden Wink

Do you think it was one of last year's young? The markings look partway between juvenile and adult male.

Could be, it wasn't large but I didn't think sub-adult or juvenile at the time either. Makes me wonder where it came from. The garden pond was only semi-functional for several years but they seem to have hung on and carried on breeding somewhere.
