I spent some of today eye to eye with the frogs in my pond, and managed to see a couple of pairs actually spawning. The act only takes a few seconds, but immediately before the spawn is released the female arches upwards a little and the male hunches downwards; the eggs are then exuded and a small golf ball of whitish eggs is released. A bad photo below was the best I could get! I've neglected the spring antics of the 'common' frog for a few years, but I'm glad I took the time to spy on them in the warm sunshine.
Cheers! Before... During... After... |
